Exploring in and around Sanur

Sanur Beach is Bali’s oldest tourist destination.

 

This stretch of sandy beach has been famous throughout the century for its magical sunrise and sleepy town.

 

Located on the southeast coast of Bali, Sanur it is conveniently located within 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport, Kuta, Seminyak and about a 40 minutes drive from Ubud, making it accessible to activities in other areas of Bali.

Every year during the windy season The Bali Kites Festival is held between July and August (sometimes through October).

Hundreds of competing kite troupes gather from all over the island to pilot their traditional kites. These kites are gigantic and have evolved into increasingly bombastic proportions over the years, measuring up to four meters in width and 100 meters in length.

A gamelan orchestra plays music throughout the festival. The festival attracts many tourists and international kite fliers, along with many local spectators.

The main road of the town is called Jalan Danau Tamblingan and it runs north to south through the town offering boutiques to shop from and the art market off of Jalan Segara Ayu has a wide selection of handicrafts and souvenirs.

Getting around Sanur is practical and visitors may choose to walk, take a metered taxi, ride a bicycle or catch a bemo bus.

There is a long paved beach front path which runs the whole length of the district.

You may choose from water activities such as; surfing, stand up paddle, windsurfing, paragliding, cruising on a traditional outrigger boat or simply relaxing on the beach while soaking up the sun rays as one of the many options of things to do, while staying in Sanur.
